BILINGUALISM
English by stages
In the Infant Community and House of Children, there are always two guides in charge, and one of them speaks to girls and boys in English. In Taller I and II, the English guide spends eight hours weekly in the environment and addresses the curriculum that is being taught in Spanish. This way, the students don’t only approach the language through grammar but also through the contents of different areas, which enriches the learning process. We are also incorporating Montessori material in English (nomenclatures, grammar boxes, and signs) to be able to have all the materials in both languages so that the children can work in any of them. In the Adolescent Community one of the main guides is a native speaker; they have five hours of English a week to approach it as a second language, and one of the occupations is integrally taught in English. |
