BILINGUALISM

At CIMM, we work bilingually in order to incorporate the use of the English language in daily life through a model that adapts to different ages and stages, with a teaching team of mostly native speakers.

Our infant and English teams have been trained on a system of learning and acquiring English language phonemes, and the presence of students from different countries in our school means that many interactions between students are naturally in English.

We believe that, through learning a second language, they will have a window open to the world.

English by stages

In the Infant Community and House of Children, there are always two guides in charge, and one of them speaks to girls and boys in English.

In Taller I and II, the English guide spends eight hours weekly in the environment and addresses the curriculum that is being taught in Spanish. This way, the students don’t only approach the language through grammar but also through the contents of different areas, which enriches the learning process. We are also incorporating Montessori material in English (nomenclatures, grammar boxes, and signs) to be able to have all the materials in both languages so that the children can work in any of them.

In the Adolescent Community one of the main guides is a native speaker; they have five hours of English a week to approach it as a second language, and one of the occupations is integrally taught in English.
